Manfred Siebald, Professor of American Studies, studied German, English, and Pedagogics in Marburg and North Manchester, Indiana. At Philipps University, Marburg, he earned his first and second state diplomas (Staatsexamen) in 1972 and 1979, and, in 1977, his Ph.D. in American Studies. At Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, he received his Habilitation (American Studies) in 1996. He has been teaching at Mainz since 1977, served as Clyde S. Kilby Professor at Wheaton College (1992), and held a visiting professorship at Georgia State University (1996-1997). From 1991 to 2002 he was assistant editor of Amerikastudien / American Studies and has been coeditor of Inklings-Jahrbuch since 1993.
Research Interests
His scholarly work focuses on the interfaces of literature and religion, nineteenth-century literature and culture, American church history, popular music, detective fiction, and Inklings. He is currently working on a book about the American literary musical.
